Defamation is the spoken or written statement presented
as fact which is false, is known to be false, or should
have reasonably been known to be false, made with the
intent to harm reputation. Read the facts presented
here and come to your own conclusion whether or not
Lauranell Burch (aka Nell Burch)
has defamed a respected ophthalmologist and former colleague.
You don't need to be a lawyer to see that the acts of
Lauranell Burch are meant to harm the reputation of
Dr. Kim and the prestigious Duke University. Nothing
is offered to affirm the statements are not created
out of thin air.
In March of 2006 using the alias "Eye" (see
Multiple Aliases of Lauranell Burch), Lauranell
Burch posted on the public newsgroup forum serious allegations
against respected and renown ophthalmologist Terry Kim,
MD. Dr. Kim is the head of refractive surgery at Duke
University. Lauranell Burch was (key term: was)
a genetic researcher at Duke University, but would not
have been a member of the ophthalmology staff.
The accusations and inferences made by Lauranell
Burch do not deserve repeating here, however the original
post is available. See
Lauranell Burch Defames Terry Kim, MD?
None of the accusations are substantiated. The name
of the "patient" is not provided. No identifying information
is offered other than Dr. Kim. Lauranell Burch makes
outlandish accusations that besmirch the reputation
of a respected university and hospital and offers nothing
to back it up. Lauranell Burch does not use her own
identity to make these accusations, but uses an alias.
There is no way for Duke University or Dr. Kim to respond
to the accusations because they are so vague and unsubstantiated.
It appears that being a colleague or employer of
Lauranell Burch can be an unfortunate position.
