Why would these CyberBullys attack patient advocate Glenn Hagele?

Logic and reason would indicate that people are not going to attempt to destroy someone's reputation without provocations. Glenn Hagele's provocations? He is not anti-Lasik, and he exists.

Glenn Hagele had nothing to do with the reportedly poor Lasik outcomes of these individuals. He did not advise them to have Lasik, he did not recommend their doctor, they did not use the resources of the nonprofit patient advocacy Glenn Hagele founded. By logic and reason, they have no reason to attack Glenn Hagele, but you cannot apply logic and reason to illogical and unreasonable people.

Here is an example from their manifesto "The Lasik Report", distributed by Lauranell Burch aka Nell Burch:

"There are permanent adverse effects of LASIK in 100% of cases..."

Think about that statement. Do the people you know who had Lasik have "permanent adverse effects"? This is what what the CyberBullys who attack Glenn Hagele profess. Millions of people world-wide have had Lasik. Did 100% of these people having "permanent adverse effects" somehow get by the news media? Probably not.

For years Glenn Hagele has participated in Internet forums where Lasik issues are discussed. When questions are asked, he researches answers and responds. Some of these forums are unmoderated and anyone can say anything with little recourse.

Much of the researched information provided by Glenn Hagele does not support their anti-Lasik position. In fact, substantiated peer-reviewed medical studies and multiple Food and Drug Administration clinical trials have shown that Lasik is not perfect, but is medically safe and predictable for appropriate candidates. Since he does not agree with their anti-Lasik rhetoric, they attack him, using the same forums Glenn Hagele attempts to use to educate.

Glenn Hagele's other provocation? He exists. Or more importantly, he exists where their doctors do not: on unmoderated forums.

When Glenn Hagele provides substantiated information that often disputes their anti-Lasik claims, they attack him. They attack him as if he harmed them himself. They attack him as if he was the doctor they perceive harmed him. They attack him because the doctor they perceived harmed them is not there to attack.

Glenn Hagele has all but given up on open forums and now participates primarily in moderated forums where discourse is encouraged, but unscrupulous attacks are not allowed. That has not stopped this group, however. They now send unsolicited emails with false and shocking accusations to associates of Glenn Hagele, including the individuals who support the nonprofit organization he founded.

To understand the differences between Glenn Hagele and, Brent Hanson, Lauranell "Nell" Burch, and Dean Kantis, you need only compare Glenn Hagele's responses to patient concerns on the USAEyes.org Lasik forum, with "The Lasik Report" quoted above.

Be forewarned. "The Lasik Report" is filled with distorted manipulations in an attempt to make good science appear to support their cause. While "The Lasik Report" may be distorted from fact, what it does provide is an accurate description of what these people believe, and why applying logic and reason to their acts is an exercise in futility.
